We're just getting back to normal after our wonderful Ferns Medieval Gathering - a celebration of what makes Ferns unique - its community and heritage. In the coming weeks we will feature the highlights of the festival weekend in photographic form. For more information on our Gathering click here.

Known as the ancient capital of Leinster and Gateway to Norman Wexford, Ferns history and heritage make it unique. Evidence of its associations with St. Aidan (598AD), and Diarmuid McMurrough who brought the Norman’s to Ireland in 1169, is still to be seen. Heritage features abound in Ferns, ranging from the smallest cathedral in Europe and Ferns Castle to a holy well.

Ferns was designated Monument of the Month for October 2012 by the National Monuments Service and Archeology Ireland's latest winter issue featured a heritage guide on Ferns, reflecting its importance as a heritage site.

These features sit comfortably alongside modern architectural gems such as the Castle Visitor's Centre reflecting a community which appreciates its past while embracing the future.


A visit to Ferns and surrounds provides a lot to see and do, from walks in wooded areas to the more athletic pursuits of motocross, soccer and gaelic games, to the more leisurely activities of tapestry and horseshoes. A vibrant community which has seen much change over the centuries, it is now a modern, vibrant village, growing in reputation as a tourist destination. Set in the sunny South East, in very picturesque countryside, Ferns is a village located on the N11 between the nearby towns of Enniscorthy and Gorey. Wonderful range of beaches within easy reach, from the seaside resort of Courtown to beaches stretching south towards Wexford.
